Since its founding in 1974, Bay Street Players at the State Theatre has been committed to youth education. The Young People’s Theatre program (YPT) is the oldest of its kind in the state and among the longest running youth theatre education initiatives in the nation.
We are proud to provide a creative outlet to students who have limited access to the arts by affording them the opportunity to learn in a live production environment. In class, students learn proper acting styles, techniques, and character development on their way to a weekend of public performances complete with costumes, props, sets, and light and sound elements—just as they would be in our Main Stage Series. Classes are regularly visited by experts from the Central Florida theatre community for master classes in a range of theatrical techniques.
Young People’s Theatre students are encouraged to use skills developed in class and continue learning by participating in our Main Stage Series, both on and offstage.
