Forest Preserve was established in 2024 after research into forest sustainability, land restoration and public interest in wild spaces. This new amenity is a unique – an intentional outdoor space fully supported with interpretative signage, an already active volunteer network, nonprofit sponsorship and above all, an intention to preserve and restore this 14-acre forest for future generations of Mount Dorans.
Forest Preserve is open 365 days of the year, from dawn to dusk. No facility rentals are available in Forest Preserve.
The Forest Preserve project is a result of the growth of the W.T. Bland Public Library’s popular free environmental programs, several of which now take place in the forest. In addition to monthly guided walks led by experienced naturalists, Forest Preserve hosts story time activities, forest school for families and other programs designed to get people of all ages into the woods. The boardwalk features a 20-sign storybook walk, which is updated monthly with new nature-based picture books, thanks to the Friends of the Library. For more information about Forest Preserve activities, please see the library’s webpage or visit the library.
Forest Preserve is located behind WT Bland Library.
