Lit for the first time on November 3, 1887, the Ponce de Leon (then Mosquito) Inlet Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Florida and one of the largest, complete light stations in the United States. As one of only 11 lighthouses in the country to have been designated a National Historic Landmark, the Ponce Inlet Light Station remains an active private aid to navigation. The historic buildings are now home to one of the largest and most extensive lighthouse museums in the country.
